Mill Bank & Cottonstones Heritage Open Day

An old mill, now called The Old Watermill, next to a small pond

Join us on Sunday 14th September at 1.45pm at St. Mary’s Church, where historian Ruth Beazley will give a short introduction about village life during the textile era and the dramatic changes after the 1901 mill closures.

A heritage walk will follow, ending at St. Mary’s School, with tea, cake and a historical display explaining why Kebroyd Mills suddenly become bankrupt.

Sunday 14th September (1.45pm-3.00pm)

The walk starts at 1:45pm at St. Mary’s Church, Cottonstones and will proceed through the village ending at St. Mary’s School.

Ruth will also be celebrating the publication of her new book ‘Mill Bank and Cottonstones. Stories from the 20th Century’, which gives first-hand accounts of what it was like living through the days of the depression.

CalderTales has sponsored the printing of the book and book sales will go to developing the Mill Bank village website.

Both events are free but donations are welcome to support the work of the Mill Bank History Group. The book will be available to purchase for £12 (cash preferred).
